Nutshell version: I'm David Savage, Maker of Things/Head Dork of Dorkorama Jewelry Designs, artisan handmade gemstone and glass, wire wrapped, sterling silver, gold-filled, copper, up-cycled and Steampunk inspired jewelry! |
I continue the proud artist tradition of almost getting a bachelors degree but never quite finishing. Mom is still proud!
Nutcracker Suite: I think everyone feels like a dork inside, so I make jewelry to celebrate your inner weirdo! When I was just a blue haired teenager I wrote a little zine called 'dorkwad'. The zine was a fad, but I had found my name! I have made jewelry forever but began actually selling my work in late 2008. I use wire-wrapping,beading, assemblage, resin casting, and increasingly-metalworking. I work with a variety of metals, but prefer sterling silver. Gemstones that are odd, flashy, or celebrate nature's dorkiness are my bag! I love rutilated and tourmalinated quartz, labradorite and moonstone, rough cut stones and hammer faceting. Not to mention Swarovski crystals and old watch parts, gears, cogs, patinas and tarnish, Czech glass, vintage Lucite.--anything special so the jewelry will be something special.
I'm inspired by the Ocean(I grew up on an island), small towns and gigantic cities, oddities and curiosities, keepsakes and treasures, legends myths and ghost stories, revolutionaries and rebels, outsiders and the underground, antique technology, quackery and relics, sideburns, kitsch, art deco, pop art and punk rock, DIY, coffee, cigarettes, geeks, nerds, dorks, and all manner of oddballs! I like run on sentences.
